This 3 CD collection features Buchbinder as soloist and conductor and is a live recording of concerts held in May 2011 at the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. Buchbinder’s interpretation of Beethoven has been described as “channelling the music from some cosmic beyond” by The New York Times. The Chicago Tribune praised the “combination of stylistic authority and elegance that marks his playing” when he performed Beethoven’s Concerto No. 4 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Riccardo Muti in June 2013. In 2012 Buchbinder was awarded both an ECHO Klassik Award for Best Instrumentalist of the Year and the Choc de l’année for Sony’s The Sonata Legacy, a 9CD box set recording of all of Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas. More than 100 recordings document the scope and diversity of Rudolf Buchbinder’s repertoire. Buchbinder attaches considerable importance to the meticulous study of musical sources, and has an extensive collection of autograph scores, first editions, and original documents. He owns 38 different, complete editions of the scores for Beethoven’s 32 Piano Sonatas, and has analyzed each, tirelessly finding and correcting editorial errors.
