On this enterprising recording she performs three concertos with the multi-award winning Moscow Soloists under the baton of her father, the chamber orchestra's founder and Music Director. It features two major 20th century Russian concertos - by Dmitri Shostakovich and Alfred Schnittke - and also demonstrates Bashmet's versatility and breadth of repertoire in J S Bach's Concerto in D minor, BWV1052, perhaps the most popular and beautiful of his keyboard concertos. Schittke's Concerto for piano and strings (1979), a single-movement work, is generally regarded as one of his finest pieces, while Shostakovich's Concerto No 1 for piano, trumpet and strings is amongst the most brilliant and distinctive of his early works. Ksenia Bashmet is a prize winner at many major competitions and has also appeared at a large number of prestigious international festivals. She was born in Moscow in 1980 and studied at the Gnessin Special Music School and the Moscow State Conservatory. She has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, the USA, Japan, Israel, at venues such as New Tokyo Opera City Hall, Beethoven Halle and Vienna's Musikverein. She made her recording debut on Bel Air in 2006 in Mozart's Concerto for two pianos in F major, K242 with Mira Yevtich and the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dmitri Yablonsky. She has also appeared on a previous disc for Quartz, 'Game Over', with the Russian violinist Roman Mints, performing a chamber piece by Artem Vassiliev written especially for him.
